The Abilene Public Library invites dreamers of all ages to “Dream Big, READ” by participating in the 2012 Summer Reading Program.  Young people, infants through young adults, are inspired to dream through books, music, games, and more.

The Annual Kick-Off, which marks the beginning of the summer’s events will commence from1:30 pmto4:00 p.m.on Friday, May 18. 

Youth who participate in the READiscover Time Logs are challenged to read twelve and a half hours in eight weeks. They are also asked to set a personal goal.  Prizes are earned when either the challenge or the personal goal is met. Grand prizes will also be awarded at the end of the Summer Reading Program. Registration will begin at the Kick-Off and close on June 30 and time Logs will be due at the library by closing on Saturday, July 14.   

Weekly programs will start May 21 and end July 14. Wee Read Story Times for infants through preschoolers will be held on Mondays at10:30 a.m.Primary Story Times for preschoolers through early elementary will be held on Tuesdays at3 pm. A parent or care provider needs to accompany the children to either of these programs. 

Elementary Story Times for elementary students will be held on Wednesdays at3 p.m.and will feature several guest speakers.  Tweens and Teens Specials, for fifth through eighth grade students, will take place on Thurdays @3 p.m.Movie Times will take place at3 p.m.on Fridays. 

The Pink Lemonade Party featuringThadBeachin Concert will take place on Thursday, July 19, at3 p.m. 

There is no registration needed to attend any of these programs.

The Adult Library is also holding a summer reading program with the same theme, Dream Big READ. Adults may start signing up Friday, May 18 at the circulation desk to register for prizes. All participants will receive a free Abilene Public Library tote bag while supplies last. Adult programs and events will be announced later.
